Reviews:

  • “… Singaporean sound designer Darren Ng has something else in mind. The lush piano, suspended moments and discreet digital tweaking of the decay on “The Lacuna Medley” suggests a bleached-out form of exotica. It’s a mood that informs the rest of this project, which transforms the pauses of the day into a series of translucent dreams, made up of filmy keyboards, overlaid washes and floating structures. Martin Denny would be proud.” Electronica Reviewed by Ken Hollings, WIRE (UK), issue 279, May 2007.
HOMPY (Hong Kong) album review, SonicBrat: HI.A.TUS (album) ~Translated Site~Also available @:

Project Write-up:

Hi.a.tus |hi’at?s|
noun ( pl. -tus.es ) [usu. in sing. ]
a pause or gap in a sequence, series, or process

Every now and then, we fall in and out of reality. The parallel of two worlds – first being the world we exist in; the second being the world we created for ourselves. Whether it’s socially created or fabricated in our own mind, the relationship between the real and the created is one that keeps us sane. This has occurred to me as a gap in time, a pause in our existence. A paradox that is essential to our survival. The truth aside, HI.A.TUS is an audio diary of my experiences in these pauses. Perhaps there were times when we existed in similar hiatus…

I hope this project may give you a rewarding experience for that will be most gratifying for me.
