sonicbrat: “TANGIBLE OEUVRES TACET” [TOT] on hold
[TOT]
“Tangible Oeuvres Tacet”
A Sound Art Installation
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
![Tangible Oeuvres Tacet [TOT]](http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/large/0217/b691c47e44e3479d850d7c2a3e467a9d.jpg)
The essence of [TOT], as the abbreviation implies, uses tangible objects reminisce of childhood and lost memories, that shaped us at a very young age. It explores such aforementioned objects by allowing audience to approach them from a different sensory hierarchical interaction (touch->aural->sight), which brings a different perspective to interpreting and relating to these familiar objects. The installation encourages a sense of playfulness, creativity, romancing and reminiscing. On a deeper level, [TOT] explores our lost or buried associations to past things and through these interactions, allow the objects to resonate their own laments. We will, for the first time, hear them sing to us in return in forms of acousmatics and musique-concrete.
The visitors will be able to produce, first hand, raw sounds with the tangible objects. Through the use of microphones, contact microphones (depending on the nature of these objects), photocells, etc; the sounds will be picked up and processed live in real time by means of live hardware or software processing – sampling, looping, effects, synthesis, chains of these varieties, etc. Thus, breathing an unique design each time with different visitors as we listen to the symphonies of these objects.
[TOT] PHASE I
Initial materials conceptualization:
1) Old Plastic Bags
2) Macdonald’s Straws + Liquid Paper Ball Bearings
3) Plastercine
4) Old Retro Wall Switches
5) “Rooster” bowls + Marbles
6) Nailed Board or Cabinet with Slots & Paper Covers (“Tikam”)
7) Tamiya Toy Cars Motors + Wire Hangers + Arcade Buttons
- To avoid objects that produce distinctive sounds e.g. toy instruments, old radio
- Not too direct with “convenient” objects that produce sounds
- Looking at “extracting” micro-sounds of objects through the use of contact microphones
- Objects do not produce sounds on their own; sounds are produced only via visitors’ interaction with the installations
