[探索十四] connections

Met up with Chin Huat and Woan Wen for our phase two developments. We all felt that the first phase was a good process though there were many areas we could improve on. It was definitely a necessary phase to go through and I personally see the first presentation at The Substation as part of the process and not an end in itself.

We discussed on the “relationship” between the three media and felt that there should be more “connections” be it indirect relationships or “conversations” (I am careful not to use “interactions” as that defines a certain direct approach to methods). We look at the space we would be performing in and discussed on possibilities of usage and reforming the entire production, keeping the aesthetics of the first run, finding new “relationships” that “happens” or “as a result of chance”.

  • placement, displacement, positions, fluidity
  • materials, structure, elements, form

The space we are given in Vienna is an old 19th century building, which is currently an art institute. The performance space is an exhibition hall (Ausstellungsraum) with pillars, definitely going to be a very exciting place…

We might even be looking at breaking down the previous version and re-work on the piece with the fundamentals from the first presentation. Here are some pointers:

  • Adding new elements, events… drawing new relationship between space, body, light and sound
  • Scraping certain parts or re-work on existing parts
  • New structure, though keeping the aesthetics and theme
  • Adding more layers through explorations of the concept
  • Redifine “flow” in space; adapting to the new space
  • Definitely need the time in Vienna to further develop the piece

So, for now, we have a lot of work to do…
