whispers 私房话

Currently I am busying over The Finger Players’ upcoming production WHISPERS 私房话 (click to visit the dedicated site with blog updates of the process); it is a very moving play in a quiet way, and in my opinion, a very powerful piece of theatre. I hadn’t felt what I felt when I watched the full run last week since once upon a time and I am proud and thankful this piece of work touched me that way. Here’s some publicity shots:

I really like the aesthetics of this experimental production and the process is really a gift to any artist. A lyrical and beautiful production I’ll recommend to contemporary theatre goers.

And matching this is an equally beautiful and minimalist set design by Lim Weiling, which has inspired me to install 30 contact microphones into them to do live, real time sampling and processing whilst the actresses (sub)consciously interact with the sound installation. I will then do minimalist piano improvisation on top of the processed sounds. At this point, I do not know how it will turn out (sound) but I hope I’ll do the production justice with my design and composition. Here’s 5 x 5m contact microphones that I’ve DIY-ed. It was a long time ago I last soldered anything so was a little rusty… but starting to get the hang of it again. 5 down, 25 more to go, and then installation into the set will come after…
